One year as a European Volunteer in JEF-France – 1st September 2008 – 30th June 2009

JEF France offers a position for a European Voluntary Service (EVS) for the JEF office in Paris. The programme starts on the 1st September 2008 till the 30th June 2009. JEF France encourages all those who are interested in the possibility to work with issues such as European awareness and the building of a political EU to apply!

EVS conditions: European Voluntary Service is a programme offered by the European Commission’s Youth in Action Programme in order to facilitate intercultural exchange and civil society engagement. By the start of the project the European Volunteer must not be older than 30 years. The volunteer gets his/her living costs covered including pocket money and language classes.
Work description: The volunteer will take part in various projects, as the organisation of seminars, school tours, campaigns, exchanges, debates etc. The EV will be introduced to all parts of the young European organisation and work within a variety of projects. This will help the EVS getting a holistic picture of NGO work, structure, methods etc. The EV will also have the possibility to learn how to build up long term project, find finances, do press work, do lobbying, work with the internet, member contacts etc. in a NGO. We expect particularly the EV to work within our two major kinds of actions (information and lobbying) and specially our programme “Europe at school” . The volunteer will aslo work on our actions related to the French Presidency of the EU Council during the second semester of 2008 and to 2009 European elections. The EV will also have the opportunity to deal with our national events (such as our summer university, our training seminar, our european seminar …), communication tools (monthly newsletter, websites, …), public relations (for instance during fairs, forums or street actions), work with other associations involved or not in European issues…
The volunteer will aslo have the opportunity to plan, organise and implement his/her own projects, for instance in link with his/her own country. The EV will be based in our national office in Paris but he/she could have the opportunity to participate in specific activities in the rest of France and Europe.
Who we are looking for: There are no formal requirements of the volunteers, but certain characteristics we believe would greatly contribute to the type of work the volunteer will undertake. These include :
- Dynamic, organized, rigorous…
- Willingness and ability to work as part of a team and together with other young people, to plan and implement projects
- Willingness to take part in street actions, presentations in school…
- Ability to communicate with young people, especially around the areas of Europe, even if prior knowledge in these areas is not a prerequisite
- Interest in European issues (specially Europe as a political integration project) and European culture exchange
- Interest in NGO work and the participation in civil society
- Ideally member or sympathizer of one of JEF Europe national organizations , but other applications will also be welcomed.
